DuPont Qualicon has released a new genetic-based test that allows food companies to detect Listeria on environmental surfaces in just eight hours, the company said. This new assay is the first commercial application of Reverse-Transcriptase PCR for bacterial testing in food and the latest addition to the company’s suite of BAX system products.

Found in a wide range of foods, Listeria is usually killed with proper cooking. However, ready-to-eat products, such as hot dogs and deli meats, can become contaminated between cooking and packaging. Listeriosis is an infection caused by eating food contaminated with pathogenic Listeria monocytogenes.

Water Cannon

Water Cannon has designed the HOT-115 series of user-friendly portable hot water pressure washers for durability, performance and affordability.
This design has a complete roll cage to protect its parts while allowing for mobility and transportability. With capacity up to 4.2 gallons per minute and adjustable pressure starting from100 PSI and rising up to 4,200 PSI, these electrically fired pressure washers require just a 115-volt hook up and result in only a 3 amp draw. With all the necessary safeguard options such as over pressure safety pop off and high limit overheat protection, these units have a 164° F heat rise maxing to a sanitizing 210° F while offering a continuous flow of hot water, the company said.

Crafted with a 13-horsepower Honda GX Series engine, these all-terrain mobile washers are rugged, won’t tip and are heated with diesel fuel or kerosene oil with a capacity up to 6.5 gallons. Standard features include: stainless steel coil wrap, extra-heavy-duty anodized, thick powder-coated frame, on-board nozzle storage, hose and gun rack holder, and schedule-80 black pipe heating coil baffled for maximum efficiency. These units can be completely rebuilt, and are easy to maintain, the company said.

APV
www.apv.com

The APV 110T Homogenizer for dairy and food applications is available in two versions — a Rannie series with three-piece valve housing and a Gaulin series with mono-block valve housing. Both series offer capacities ranging from 660 gallons per hour to 5,544 gph.

The new modular design makes the APV 110T suitable for a wide range of applications and valve types. Homogenizing valves can easily be changed to accommodate different products and/or capacities on the same homogenizer, the company said.

The operating panel provides a clear view of and access to all external gauges and controls from a single point of operation. The liquid end, the major source of noise, is located farther away from the operator, thus providing a significant noise reduction. The power end, which is concealed under stainless steel panels, has also been redesigned to enable higher performance and provide direct service access, the company said.

The side panels are locked by quarter turn key-locks for safety reasons, and can be lifted easily off the bottom hinges to reduce service area, APV said. Once the side panels have been removed, the top can be lifted off without the use of any tools. At slightly less than 5 feet tall, the height of the homogenizer facilitates removal of the top.

Food Quality Sensor International
www.FQSInternational.com

Food Quality Sensor International has developed a revolutionary new smart sensor label that senses spoilage in fresh meat and poultry products. SensorQ is applied by the meat packer or distributor to the inside wrap of uncooked meat and poultry packages and detects food-borne bacteriological levels right inside the package. When the inside of the quality “Q” on the label is tangerine orange, the product is fresh. When the bacteria count in the package builds to a critical level, the orange turns to tan to indicate spoilage, the company said.
SensorQ is made of food grade materials and is extremely economical, costing less than 1 percent of the total value of the average package of meat or poultry that it labels, the company said. Marketing research indicates that more than 95 percent of consumers would opt to purchase a product with a freshness indicator instead of a product without.

Foam control product handling and use is now easier for egg-wash operators with Best Egg PFC from JohnsonDiversey, a global leader in cleaning and hygiene solutions. The product, which comes in a six-pound capsule, is much easier to use than large traditional drums and requires significantly less packaging, the company said. Best Egg chemistry also lowers effluent BOD (biological oxygen demand) when compared with traditional foam control products.

Best Egg PFC chemistry is an effective combination of silicone oil and defoaming surfactants in a concentrated and feedable form, the company said.
The Best Egg PFC thin-wall encapsulated package provides a 65 percent reduction in packaging compared to traditional foam control products packaged in drums, the company said. The product’s efficient formulation requires less material for use than all-in-one formulations, which lowers effluent BOD by more than 50 percent when compared to liquid foam control products.

KD Scientific has released the new OS?250, a system that detects spills and leaks before they cause a problem around your high-performance liquid chromatography.

As little as three drops of liquid will cause the OS?250 to react, the company said. The system consists of a moisture sensing mat and control unit. The mat is made from a material specially developed for detecting liquid spills. It is connected to the control unit by a simple connection cable.

When liquid is detected on the sensing mat the OS?250 Controller will sound an audible alarm, flash an LED and will turn off the power of any device plugged into the single-outlet, solid-state power controller. The switched power outlet can control up to 8 amps.

The OS?250 Spill Sensor is supplied with the controller and four reusable 30-by-30 centimeter mats that can be cut to size. It also includes the connector cable between the mat and the controller.
