Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. is integrating a new signal processing technology, Intellitrack XR (IXR), into its line of Thermo Scientific APEX metal detectors. The software is designed to detect metal in discrete wet products that change over time, including cheese, bread and water bottles. The IXR technology learns and cancels the X (reactive) and R (resistive) product signals, leaving only the metal contaminant to be detected. To assure high-performance over time, the intelligent IXR tracks these product signals by adjusting product cancellation on the fly. This dual channel (X and R) cancellation approach eliminates the risk of phasing out a foreign metal object and leaving it undetected. Thermo Fisher has applied for a patent on the software being incorporated as a standard feature on all Thermo Scientific APEX metal detectors including the APEX 500, 300 and 100.

The PetroOXY Rapid Oxidation Stability tester from Petrotest Instruments provides a new tool for monitoring and control of oxidation stability (aging) of oils, fats and greases, as well as proprietary antioxidant and shelf life additives. The compact tester provides fast test times; clear, easily understood and repeatable/reproducible results; small sample sizes; automatic operation; and simple handling and cleaning.
