Ecolab
www.ecolab.com
Ecolab has introduced CheckPoint Multiple-Catch Inserts and CheckPoint Snap Trap Inserts, new patent-pending devices designed to prevent exterior rodents from entering commercial facilities, while reducing dependence on rodenticides to deliver proactive protection.
CheckPoint Multiple-Catch Inserts strengthen the Ecolab Rodent Program by providing additional exterior protection through a controlled point of pest suppression, stopping mice before they can enter a facility, the company said. The discreet stations house a trapping mechanism that field tests have shown to be just as effective as traditional rodenticide bait stations in preventing interior rodent infestations, but with no chemical use, the company said.
The devices help pest management professionals identify the species of rodents present and the intensity of the pest pressure outside a facility. With these factors known, they can determine the most appropriate course of action for that facility’s particular situation.
The new CheckPoint Snap Trap Inserts offer an additional tool for protection, housing two snap traps that can be used to monitor rodent activity on the exterior of a facility.
Bayer Environmental Science

Maxforce FC Magnum Roach Killer Bait Gel from Bayer Environmental Science contains five times the active ingredient, fipronil, than previous formulations, making it a powerful and effective cockroach gel bait, the company said. It provides fast, complete control and is especially effective against aberrant-feeding German cockroaches and large cockroach species. It is an ideal choice for sensitive food-handling areas because it can be applied to cracks and crevices.
In addition to the Domino Effect — whereby cockroaches share the fipronil with each other — Maxforce FC Magnum features ContactX technology, which controls cockroaches that simply touch the bait — a crucial advantage in commercial food-handling establishments that offer a variety of alternative food sources, the company said.
PakSense
www.paksense.com
PakSense has released PakSense Ultra T3 powered by HarvestMark, a farm-to-fork traceability solution with integrated temperature monitoring and country-of-origin labeling (COOL) capabilities.
Ultra T3 allows shippers to track and trace products through the supply chain while simultaneously allowing them to monitor the cold chain and comply with COOL requirements, the company said. Traceability, cold chain and country-of-origin data are securely uploaded and stored in a hosted database, accessible anywhere, anytime via a password-protected Web portal.
Case and product items are labeled with country-of-origin information and unique HarvestMark codes supplied by YottaMark. Each code is associated with information such as harvest date, field of harvest, crew, processing/packing data and general bill of lading details. PakSense temperature monitoring labels then are applied at the pallet or container level and are automatically linked to the case and/or item labels.
Traceability and temperature data can be captured and uploaded to the HarvestMark data center as product moves through the supply chain. At any point, either the serial number of the PakSense Label or the HarvestMark code can be queried via a secure Web portal for tracing, country of origin and cold chain integrity information, the company said.
PakSense Ultra T3 powered by HarvestMark is designed to fit with a company’s specific workflows. In addition, PakSense Ultra T3 is fully compatible with the Produce Marketing Association’s Guidelines on Traceability and meets GS1 and COOL requirements.
Thermo Fisher Scientific

Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced the new Thermo Scientific APEX 300 metal detectors, offering high sensitivity in a small, easy-to-install package. These new APEX models also are available in complete drop through (D) and pipeline (P) systems, making integration into a production line easy and fast.
Specifically designed for food and beverage applications, the APEX 300 is ideal for bulk flow and piped products, the company said. Due to its small size, the APEX 300 also is offered in combination with the Thermo Scientific VersaWeigh checkweigher, creating a state-of-the-art integrated weighing and contaminant detection system.
The new metal detectors build on the APEX family of products. The APEX 300 specifically addresses a new class of applications by handling fast-moving, gravity fed or piped products without sacrificing sensitivity.
Designed with new signal processing algorithms, the APEX 300 is optimized for high-speed scanning and detection of contaminants, the company said. The unique multi-coil design of the APEX 300 delivers the highest level of sensitivity possible in a compact, lightweight design, the company said.
All APEX 300 metal detectors have a hygienic design, which allows for easy wash down and cleaning. In bulk flow and pipeline applications this eliminates the chance of cross-contamination during product changeover.
The detector’s rugged touch screen has no removable parts, which translates to lower maintenance and, ultimately, a lower total cost of ownership, the company said.

Safety Knife Company
www.safetyknife.net
The Safety Knife Company introduces its newest safe box opener or heavy-duty bag-opening knife: the Duck 1100M.
Designed to cut the tops off bags or boxes, the D1100M cuts through paper, plastic and burlap bags as well as corrugated boxes, the company said.
Made with a metal-detectable polypropylene knife body, the D1100M is specifically designed for the food industry. This material can be detected and rejected by typical detection machines and is X-ray visible, the company said. Pieces as small as 1/16 of an inch have been tested and detected.
The D1100M is a disposable knife that is injection molded with completely enclosed surgical stainless steel blades and sealed to prevent bacterial growth.
Douglas Machines
www.dougmac.com
For companies that want to standardize their pallet cleaning process and achieve consistent results time after time, Douglas Machines has developed a compact tunnel washer, the Douglas Model WR-1500V-PW.
This vertical-load machine is 10 feet long and washes and sanitizes at the rate of 120 pieces an hour, the company said. Wash water is re-circulated to save water and chemicals. After the pallet leaves the wash chamber, it is sprayed with a fresh water sanitizing rinse at 180° F. An optional blow-off module also is available.
J.T. Eaton
www.jteaton.com
J.T. Eaton introduces its JAWZ line of mouse and rat snap traps. The heavy-duty plastic traps are not only reusable, they’re made with 80 percent recycled plastic — two eco-friendly features, the company said. The JAWZ traps can be set by foot, eliminating the worry of catching a finger during the placement process. The low-profile traps can be used against a wall, but are equally effective in a bait station — particularly J.T. Eaton’s 401STS snap trap station. They feature a unique bait reservoir that holds liquid, granular or solid bait. The black plastic atraps are easy to clean, which is a particular benefit in food plant situations.
Key Technology
www.key.net
Key Technology’s Raptor Laser line includes a combination of lasers designed to inspect vegetables using more than one wavelength simultaneously. This new sensing capability increases the ability to detect foreign material and product defects in processed and fresh-cut vegetables, the company said.
Combining multiple wavelength lasers with color cameras on one sorter maximizes production versatility to achieve superior product quality and food safety, the company said. Key’s newest Raptor combination optimizes sorter performance across a wide range of vegetables without requiring a laser module change or costly additional modules.
For example, the new Raptor laser with multiple wavelengths provides value to leafy green handlers by allowing them to run baby spinach in the morning and iceberg in the afternoon on the same line, the company said. In addition, previously difficult sorts, such as discriminating between undesirable romaine core and desirable romaine rib, are now easily handled with Key’s Raptor Laser sorters. Integrated with Key’s proprietary color cameras, the new multi-sensor sorters maximize the detection and removal of defects, extraneous vegetable matter (EVM) and foreign material (FM) based on differences in the structural properties of the objects and differing levels of chlorophyll as well as color, size and shape.
