Mold mites (Tyrophagus putrescentiae) and grain mites (Acarus siro) are important stored food pests but few methods for monitoring are available. Effective early detection or reliable monitoring of mites in the food, animal feed and associated industries is needed. 

The new Mite Monitors by Insects Limited are designed specifically for the detection and monitoring of mite infestations. Two trap designs are used for different situations. The mini mite monitor is a device that can detect mites in an enclosed sample of food product within hours. The other large black mite monitors are used for detection in warehouses, near food processing lines, pallet storage and other areas that can harbor mites. 

These monitors use a pre-made, mixed food base lure that will attract mites from at least 10 feet away, the company said.

A 2-percent PAA formulation, SaniDate 2.0 is ideal for sanitizing packing houses and food-processing facilities that require high standards of disease control, BioSafe Systems said. SaniDate 2.0 also may be used for uncleaned surfaces for combined sanitizing and cleaning. The product’s environmentally friendly chemistry meets the criteria of the USDA’s National Organic Standards.

The benefits of fuel cells include reduced emissions and peak performance for the duration of the fuel cell life, making them a positive alternative to ICE trucks, the company said.

Emissions are a primary cause of environmental pollution and serious health issues, and therefore of major concern to truck manufacturers. According to testing by EPA and the California Air Resources Board (CARB), Hyster trucks emit lower emissions than almost any other truck in the industry. Nitrogen gas generators from dominick hunter provide clean, secure gas for food plants. The pressure swing adsorption (PSA) method of non-cryogenic nitrogen gas generation uses plant-compressed air. The air is filtered and dried through a desiccant air dryer, then passed through a proprietary carbon molecular sieve (CMS) bed. The CMS preferentially adsorbs the smaller oxygen molecule, while the larger nitrogen molecule is passed through. With a quick regeneration, the bed is able to produce a continuous supply of clean dry nitrogen gas, the company said.

Although nitrogen gas generators are used in every industry, the most common use is in food packaging and food processing. Some of its applications include snack food packaging, edible oil processing, coffee and nut packaging and wine bottling.
