In August, the Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) Coalition finalized its document Current Food Industry Good Manufacturing Practices: Scope of Principles and Practices to Supplement Existing Regulatory Requirements. The document was submitted to FDA through the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Preventive Controls docket at www.regulations.gov. The document provides FDA with insight into current industry practices and approaches to GMPs and should be useful as the agency drafts regulations and guidance for FSMA preventive control requirements.
The cGMP Coalition was founded in 2004 when it began working with the FDA to move forward with revising the cGMPs. The Coalition is comprised of more than 60 food industry companies and trade associations. Representing leaders from throughout the food industry, the Coalition has a strong interest in the development of sound and effective revisions to the GMPs.
