Global Supply Chain Risk

By Lisa Lupo

In an effort to raise awareness of the increased risk to supply chains from the evolving dependence on globally sourced commercial information and technologies, the U.S. Office of the Director of National Intelligence’s (ODNI) National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) released a video in 2016.

The video highlights the threats that foreign entities pose to the private-sector supply chain and the public-sector organizations that use private-sector goods and services. The risks are then passed to end users through products and services that may contain defects or other contamination, including compromised telecommunications equipment.

“Our adversaries are trying to figure out what U.S. industry — whether telecom or defense — will be doing three years from now,” said NCSC Director Bill Evanina. “That is why NCSC and the ODNI are trying to find creative ways to help U.S. industry protect its supply chain and thereby help protect America.”

NCSC leads the integration of the U.S. government’s counterintelligence and security activities to counter foreign intelligence threats to information and assets critical to our nation’s security. The video is available here.
