Inspired by craft-brewed beer, the new energy bars from Brubar are primarily sweetened with all-natural barley malt. Why? Because, said creator Christian D’Souza, it’s an excellent source of natural energy and the taste is a big hit with athletes and craft-brewed beer lovers.
D’Souza’s interest in brewing craft beer sparked the idea to merge two popular product categories: energy bars and beer. “Eating an energy bar while driving to the home-brewing supply store, I realized that energy bar flavors are similar to the ingredients in craft-brewed beers. So why not put the two together?”
The resulting combination has grown from an initial group of avid fans to an expanding following among athletes because the combination of dates, barley malt and rolled oats provides a more sustainable energy source as the ingredients are absorbed at different rates, D’Souza said. Added benefits are the natural moist texture of barley malt and the simple, all-natural ingredient statement.
