Neogen

Neogen has developed a new Listeria-detection test, Ansr for Listeria. The second test available for Neogen’s Ansr pathogen-detection system, it provides results after 20 minutes of reaction time. Ansr for Salmonella, introduced in April, recently received AOAC performance validation, and the Listeria test’s approval is pending. Combined with Ansr’s single enrichment step, Neogen’s new pathogen detection method for Listeria can provide definitive results in as little as 16 hours from the time the sample is taken, the company said. Ansr is an isothermal amplification reaction test method that exponentially amplifies the DNA of any bacteria present in samples to detectable levels. The system was designed to combine molecular-level accuracy with a scalable low-cost instrument and a methodology that can be easily incorporated into a testing lab’s existing workflow, Neogen said. Additional tests for the Ansr platform are in development and expected to be launched in the coming months.

RMT Robotics

RMT Robotics, a Cimcorp O company, has developed a new layer picking system using its patent-pending robotic layer-picking tool. Using a combination of vacuum and clamping technology, the new tooling can pick 95 percent of consumer products on the market including corrugate or boxboard cases, shrink wrap products, bottles, tubs, and open trays. Patterns with voids and tier sheets are also handled with ease, the company said. By incorporating the new tooling, RMT’s layer-picking system can pick multiple layers at once and pick and place entire pallet loads.

Eriez
www.eriez.com
Eriez has produced a new video to walk viewers through the proper procedures for measuring displacement on electromagnetic and electromechanical feeders and conveyors. The two and a half minute video can be viewed from the Eriez website at eriez.com/Content/Videos or the company’s YouTube channel at YouTube.com/Eriez. In the video, Rob Yandrick, product manager of vibratory/screening, explains that although a vibratory feeder with a factory-installed tray is properly tuned at the factory before shipment, it may be necessary for displacement to be read at a user’s site. The video describes the two types of displacement stickers: v-gauge and circle-gauge, and Yandrick guides viewers through proper positioning for both types of stickers. Written instructions on reading displacement also are included with the manuals supplied with the equipment. For more information, visit eriez.com/Products/VibratoryFeedersAndConveyors.

NSF International

The Training and Education division of NSF International, an independent global organization that writes standards and tests and certifies products, has earned American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accreditation for its food safety certificate programs for food processing quality professionals. NSF International earned ANSI accreditation for the following courses under ASTM E2659-09: Standard Practice for Certificate Programs: Prerequisite Programs for Food Safety Systems (1 day); HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) Manager Training (2 days); Advanced HACCP: Validation and Verification (1 day); and Principles of Internal Auditing (1 day). NSF Food Safety Certificate programs are currently offered in North America, but NSF plans to expand the programs to Europe, Asia, and Latin America in the coming year. Denali Ingredients

www.denaliingredients.com
Denali Ingredients, a food ingredients provider serving dairy, bakery, and foodservice industries, has introduced a new line of flake and chunk inclusions traditionally used in chocolate chip ice cream and other snacks. The line allows for new levels of customization, including a variety of thicknesses and sizes. The new ingredients can be custom ordered to specification. This is the fourth notable ingredient innovation for Denali Ingredients in as many years, the company said. Denali introduced a line of dairy stabilizers in 2009; it invested more than $3.5 million in 2010 to build a proprietary line of extruded products that includes brownie bits, cookie dough pieces, cheesecake pieces, and other offerings; and it introduced a line of frozen Greek yogurt bases in the spring of 2012.
