5 Questions with Paul Gaertner, Detectapro Products

In the food processing industry’s continuing quest to reduce foreign object contamination, detectable products are a critical tool in helping achieve success. Paul Gaertner, President of Detectapro Products, LLC, has been helping food processors work toward zero percent foreign object contamination for more than 17 years.

1 Does BRC 4.9.6.2 only refer to metal detectable pens?

Pens are a large part of our business, however all our products are 100% detectable, abiding to the language in BRC8 4.9.6.2 requirement regarding small parts. Our products are molded without small parts that could separate from the detectable body during usage.

2 How detectable are your products?

All of our products are 100% detectable when using detection systems. Detecting our metal detectable products lies with the ratio of the aperture to the size of the product. Every product is different and every detectable fragment size need is different. Using calibration rods is a great way to keep your equipment calibrated.

3 What products can be made metal detectable?

In order to create a new metal detectable product, we research the construction of the initial die and quantity needed to determine price and the reality of the new product coming to market. Let us know if you need something not currently offered, we’ll look into it for you.

4 Can your products prevent a recall?

The loss of product, lost time in wages, bad PR, litigation and inconvenience to the retailer and consumer are a few of the consequences of a recall. Detectapro products will reduce your chances of hard plastic contaminating the final product. While we can’t prevent a recall, using 100% detectable products in conjunction with properly calibrated detection systems will go a long way toward ensuring zero percent foreign object contamination. Reduce the risk of recall by incorporating Detectapro metal detectable products.

5 Does Detectapro carry liability insurance?

Yes, we do carry liability insurance. Most of our products are made in the USA and UK and are produced where quality is measured on every product. Our products work every time. The processing floor is no place for poorly manufactured products. Products created in China or Eastern Europe use inferior processes, creating inferior products. These products do not have liability insurance.
