Reader Poll Results: Food Industry Experience

Earlier this month, we polled readers on how important on-the-job experience is when starting out in food safety and quality assurance. Here's what they said.

A career is a hard thing to start. You're looking for jobs that ask for a certain level of experience, but you can't always get the experience without getting the job.

Earlier this month, we polled readers on how important on-the-job experience is when starting out in food safety and quality assurance. Here's what six of them said:

67% said it's a must.
33% said it's a nice to have.

0% said it's not as important.

That tracks with what we heard from Avery BrayFSQA manager at Wholesome Foods, who was featured in our September/October 2022 cover story. He eventually hopes to develop an internship program for his department at Wholesome Foods. He sees it as an opportunity to bring in fresh, new ideas.

“An internship program matters to me because it’s giving back to the community of students. We’d be helping young professionals get to a starting point. One thing I’ve noticed is that experience plays a huge role in getting into this industry, and getting experience sooner is a competitive advantage.”
