HOUSTON — The national food safety law firm of Ron Simon & Associates has filed the first lawsuit in a charcuterie Salmonella outbreak linked to consumption of specialty meats, including prosciutto, sweet soppressata, dry coppa, black pepper coated dry salami and Italian dry salami sold at Sam's Club and Costco retail outlets.
The lawsuit was filed on behalf of J. Huntington, who purchased the contaminated charcuterie at her local Costco retail outlet in December 2023. She consumed the product over the holiday and became sick with Salmonella poisoning shortly thereafter. She was forced to seek medical attention and is still recovering from her illness, the law firm said.
The lawsuit was filed in Williamson County, Texas, and names as defendants Fratelli Beretta USA, Inc. (charcuterie manufacturer) and Costco Wholesale Corporation (retailer).
A copy of the lawsuit is available upon request.
At least 47 people have been sickened by the outbreak in 22 states: Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin. A further 10 have been hospitalized after consuming the products linked to the outbreak.
Although the products have been taken off store shelves, they may still be in consumers’ refrigerators.
Ron Simon & Associates represents a number of victims in the outbreak and has established a Charcuterie Salmonella Claim Center to assist victims in the outbreak. It can be reached at 1-888-335-4901 or www.ronsimonassociates.com/.
