Christopher Snabes, director of food safety for The Acheson Group (TAG) has received double recognition from the FSPCA for his lead instructor achievements. Snabes was named one of the Top Ten 2024 FSPCA Foreign Supplier Verification Programs (FSVP) Lead Instructors and one of the Top Ten 2024 FSPCA Intentional Adulteration Vulnerability Assessments (IA VA) Lead Instructors based on the number of participants trained (instructor-led) with FSPCA FSVP/IA VA certificates issued between Aug. 15, 2023, and Aug. 15, 2024.
Snabes’ accomplishment will be honored at the 2024 FSPCA Annual Conference in November.
Snabes has over 20 years of experience in the food industry, specializing in food microbiology and food safety. Before joining TAG, Snabes was the food technical specialist for The American Proficiency Institute, having extensive experience in ISO documentation and its related quality procedures and advancing the Food Microbiology Proficiency Testing division with several innovative improvements for customers. He has also been an adjunct professor in microbiology and worked as a food microbiologist for Difco Laboratories R & D, and Domino’s Pizza, Inc., R & D, quality assurance division.
Snabes has published numerous international and domestic abstracts and papers in various fields of microbiology, co-authored a book chapter and presented his work at international and domestic scientific meetings. Snabes is an active member in the Association of Food Industries; Association of Analytical Chemists (AOAC) and its U.S. Technical Advisory Group to ISO/Technical Committee 34; Institute of Food Technologists (IFT); The American Society for Microbiology (ASM), where he is a former five-year advisor (Council on Microbial Sciences) to the BOD as the sole representative for food microbiology; the Michigan Branch of ASM, where he is an industry representative to the BOD; and the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), where he is also a member of several PDGs. Snabes is also an FSPCA-certified lead instructor for the FSMA Preventive Controls for Human Food and Preventive Controls for Animal Food and an AFDO-certified instructor for the Produce Safety Alliance.
