FDA, CDC and state partners continue to investigate a multistate outbreak of Salmonella Typhimurium infections linked to cucumbers. American/slicer cucumbers grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. in Sonora, Mexico, and sold by importers on or after Oct. 12 and products containing recalled cucumbers have been recalled by multiple companies.

FDA is working closely with implicated firms to determine whether additional recalls of American/slicer cucumbers, processed recalled cucumbers and products made with recalled cucumbers may be necessary.

Retailers and distributors that purchased recalled products from SunFed Produce, Baloian Farms or Russ Davis should discard any recalled product and notify their customers of the recall, said FDA. Recalled cucumbers were packaged in bulk cardboard containers labeled with the SunFed or Pamela label, in a generic white box or black plastic crate with a sticker that says Agrotato, S.A. de C.V, or in clear plastic packages of various sizes with a seven-digit lot code beginning with “X.”

On Dec. 3, Walmart recalled Marketside Fresh Cut Cucumber Slices sold at stores in Texas. On Dec. 4, JFE, Supreme Produce and Yummi Sushi initiated recalls of food products containing recalled cucumbers at Kroger stores in Arizona, Colorado, Louisiana, Texas and Wyoming, and King Soopers stores in Colorado.

Sixty-eight illnesses and 18 hospitalizations related to the outbreak have been reported.

FDA’s investigation remains ongoing.
