The World Health Organization (WHO) and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) announced a workshop on New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) in Future Food Safety Risk Assessment, to be held June 18-20 in Singapore.
WORKSHOP DETAILS. The future of food safety and risk assessment is evolving rapidly with the emergence of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs). NAMs comprise in silico computational models, in vitro assays, omics technologies and Adverse Outcome Pathways (AOPs). These technologies offer more accurate, human-relevant insights into exposure of chemical and biological hazards, while reducing reliance on animal testing.
While NAMs have been established for alternative assessment on chemical and environmental risks, their regulatory integration remains slow and their potential for the emerging novel foods needs to be explored.
This in-person workshop aims to bridge the gaps between scientific innovation and regulatory frameworks, foster a global dialogue to advance the adoption and practical implementation of NAMs in chemical safety and assess NAMs’ current status and future prospects for novel foods.
WHO CAN ATTEND. Candidates from national and international organizations, academia and industry with expertise in topics related to NAMs are encouraged to apply. A select number of attendees will have the opportunity to deliver an oral or poster presentation. While there are no registration fees, the number of available seats is limited.
Interested applicants can complete the application form at https://forms.office.com/e/Nj9wTxa5S7. Applications must be submitted by March 2 at 11:59 p.m. Geneva Time.
Questions regarding the call for experts should be addressed to nams@who.int.
